Autobiographical works like When the Story Was Young and Stories Go Round on the Merry Go Round covered the inspiration behind his picture books. But The Dream and Reality of Picture Books investigates how he actually creates picture books by drawing upon his two previous autobiographies to focus on the raw creative process that goes into the picture books. This book is a retelling of those two previous works with updated analyses from Jimmy based on some of his more recent works.
