Jimmy Liao is one of the most renowned picture book authors and illustrators in the Chinese-speaking world. He first debuted in 1998 with “Secrets in the Woods” and “A Fish that Smiled at Me”. He would then go on to create classics such as “Turn Left, Turn Right”, “The Moon Forgets”, and “Sound of Colors”.

Jimmy has been creating picture books for more than 20 years and has published over 70 different works to date. His works have been translated to more than 200 different languages worldwide and have won prestigious awards in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, and Portugal, including the Peter Pan's Silver Stars by IBBY Sweden. In 2020, “The Rainbow of Time” received a Special Mention in the Cinema 2020 Special Category of the Bologna Ragazzi Award organized by the Bologna Children's Book Fair. In 2021, he also became an eight-time nominee of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), the world's most prestigious prize for children's and young people's literature.

Jimmy's works have a gentle yet refreshing aesthetic and a diverse set of themes. He is able to make illustrations become a type of literary language, through which he draws in viewers with smooth and poetic scenes. The heartwarming structure of his images offers not only an insight into his life philosophy but a source of respite for all readers. Jimmy remains a passionate creator even to this day, publishing new picture books every year. He has also started experimenting with oil painting and sculpture in recent years.
