Overview

In the spring of 1994, I quit my job and started to draw illustrations at home full-time.

During that time, drawing became something I did almost every day. I drew a bunch of different "little people". At first, I was not emotionally attached to any of the "little people". I was like a pale, cold-blooded, and ruthless tamer. I wielded a whip to train them day and night, hoping that they would perform all the better so that they can be put on stage to earn me applause and cash. I never felt compelled to give them any love.

We are not related.

One day, I finally worked myself sick.

I was very sick. I fought for my life as I lie at the hospital separated from the world. For a long time, I couldn't get out of bed. I couldn't meet people. I couldn't go anywhere. I was brought to tears seeing the white clouds floating outside my window, the sun gracefully finding its end at sunset, and the ordinary doves casually strolling up to the windowsill. For the first time ever did I know what it was like to be trapped. That was when I started to miss my "little people" like crazy.

As my body got better, I stopped crying. I began to write their stories for them. And as I created stories for their sake, I slowly released them one by one.

I recreated "little people" in my image.

I became them, and they became me.
