Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf - The Hats Slide Playground

The first Jimmy-themed playground for children in Taiwan. Five giant hats stacked on top of each other with long pointy ears sticking out on the very top. This is what innocent childlike imagination looks like in real life.

Introduction

The Hats Slide Playground in Tamsui's Fisherman's Wharf

The playground is designed to blend into the environment of the Fisherman's Wharf as well as the tourists that tend to visit the place. Thematically, the playground is also a continuation of Jimmy's 2018 Danhai Green Mountain Line Light Rail public art. This 2021 art project is inspired by the picture book Sometimes Sometimes and is comprised of two public art installations and the artistic children's playground. The playground is designed by Danish children's playground design company MONSTRUM and is titled "The Hats Slide Playground."

The First Jimmy-Themed Playground for Children in Taiwan

The playground is designed by MONSTRUM, a Danish artistic playground company that has previously collaborated with LEGO and the Plants vs. Zombies mobile game franchise. MONSTRUM says that they focus on three things when designing amusement facilities: "vivid colors, warm wooden materials, and an overarching narrative." This synchronicity with Jimmy's own style helped both sides reach an immediate consensus. The design team was inspired by the symbolism of the hat and the gift box from the picture book and drew from Jimmy's style that emphasizes size contrasts to create the giant hat tower slide and the gift box slide. The slides are meant to encourage the children to explore their surroundings by climbing upwards and sliding downwards. This is the first Jimmy-themed playground in Taiwan but also a place for tourists to get close and personal with art in the city. All the materials of the play equipment are made using sustainable wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council with non-toxic water-based paint and meet international and Taiwan safety standards to give children a safe place to play with peace of mind. Make the Trip Alone or Come with a Friend

The Fisherman's Wharf is one of the best places to see the sea and the sunset, and we have planned two cast bronze sculptures as guiding landmarks. The first thing one sees entering the yacht dock is the girl from Sometimes Sometimes, who has thoughtfully shown up with a lit lamp in hand to light the docks. Follow the wooden walkway and you see another girl enjoying the sight of the sea on her own. Join her or don't, sometimes only the heart knows what the heart knows. Whether you are visiting alone or coming with a friend, the wharf welcomes you. Come experience the maritime sights or see how Jimmy's art has casually blended into the environment as a new landmark.

Transportation:

Take MRT Tamsui Line to Hongshulin Station then transfer to the Danhai Light Rail and get off at V26 Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf Station.
